Job Summary
The M&T Solutions Architect designs and governs the technical solutions that power Bechtel Manufacturing & Technology's (M&T) Digital Solutions and AI portfolio. Working within the Digital & AI Strategy / Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) function, the architect translates business and functional requirements into scalable, secure, and cost-effective solution designs spanning applications, data, integration, cloud, and AI/ML platforms. The role provides architectural leadership across the full solution lifecycle - from concept and design through implementation and adoption - ensuring solutions align with Bechtel enterprise architecture standards, information-security and data-governance requirements, and M&T's digital strategy.
Major Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following
- Solution architecture & design - Define end-to-end solution architecture for M&T Digital Solutions and AI initiatives, translating business requirements into technical designs across application, data, integration, cloud, and AI/ML components.
- Technical leadership & design authority - Provide architectural direction to development teams, vendors, and project teams; review and approve technical designs to ensure quality, scalability, security, and maintainability.
- Enterprise alignment & standards - Ensure solutions conform to Bechtel enterprise architecture principles, reference architectures, technology standards, and reusable patterns, and contribute to the evolution of those standards.
- Integration & data architecture - Design integrations, APIs, and data flows between Digital Solutions applications and enterprise systems (e.g., HR/workforce-planning, project, and functional systems), ensuring interoperability and data integrity.
- Cloud & platform architecture - Architect solutions on approved cloud and platform services (e.g., Microsoft Azure), optimizing for performance, resilience, security, and cost.
- AI & emerging technology - Evaluate and incorporate AI/ML, automation, and emerging technologies into solution designs, and advise on their responsible and appropriate application to M&T use cases.
- Security & compliance by design - Embed Bechtel information-security, privacy, and data-governance requirements into all architectures, and ensure designs meet applicable regulatory and quality-management (e.g., ISO) requirements.
- Technical evaluation & governance - Assess technology options, products, and vendors; produce architecture decision records, trade-off analyses, and recommendations; and participate in architecture and change-governance reviews.
- Documentation & knowledge transfer - Produce and maintain solution architecture artifacts (diagrams, specifications, and standards) and mentor engineers and analysts on architectural best practices.
- Roadmap & advisory - Support the M&T Head of Digital & AI Strategy and M&T Data and AI Chief Architect with technology roadmaps, feasibility assessments, and estimates that inform portfolio and investment decisions.
- Education and Experience Requirements:
Required Qualifications
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software/Computer Engineering, or a related field, and 10-13 years of relevant experience [OR] 14-17 years relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- At least 3 years of the required experience in a solution architect, technical lead, or equivalent design-authority capacity.
- Demonstrated experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale solutions spanning application, data, integration, and cloud components.
- Experience defining integration and data flows across multiple business systems and applying security and data-governance requirements in solution design.
- Legally authorized to work in the country of employment without company sponsorship, where applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in engineering, construction, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
- Hands-on experience applying AI/ML, data & analytics, or automation platforms to enterprise use cases.

- Strong expertise across application, data, and integration architecture, including APIs, microservices, and modern data platforms.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (preferably Microsoft Azure) and cloud-native design.
- Working knowledge of AI/ML, data & analytics, and automation technologies and their practical application.
- Solid understanding of information security, identity, privacy, and data-governance principles and secure-by-design practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to translate between business and technical audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and sound judgment in evaluating technical trade-offs.
- Ability to lead and influence cross-functional and vendor teams without direct authority.
