Position Summary

The Material Planner II supports Materials Operations for Global Truck – Vonore/Piedmont by managing supplier planning, addressing material shortages, coordinating with internal and external partners, and improving material flow. This role builds on the Material Planner Assistant and Material Planner I positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and monitor material requirements to support production schedules, customer demand, and on-time delivery.
  • Review inventory levels, supplier commitments, and delivery schedules to identify shortages or supply risks.
  • Partner with suppliers, tactical buyers, production, sales, and cross-functional teams to resolve material constraints.
  • Investigate shortages, identify root causes, document corrective actions, and follow through to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor, prioritize, and escalate expedite needs, including high-risk shipments and long lead-time deliveries.
  • Maintain accurate planning data in MAPICS and related tools, including queries, schedules, material records, and supplier follow-up.
  • Support planning for launches, customer ramp-ups or ramp-downs, engineering changes, and demand or supply changes.
  • Communicate material status, risks, priorities, and recovery plans clearly to internal stakeholders and CVG locations.
  • Use Excel and planning tools to analyze material data, track supplier performance, support reporting, and improve visibility.
  • Recommend process improvements that strengthen material flow, reduce cost, prevent shortages, and improve supplier performance.
  • Share planning knowledge, best practices, and recommendations to improve team effectiveness.
  • Manage assigned suppliers and planning responsibilities with independence, sound judgment, and urgency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED required; B achelor’s degree preferred.

At least two (2) years of related experience and/or training required. Automotive or trucking industry experience preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read and understand simple instructions, correspondence, and memos; write routine correspondence; and present information effectively in one-on-one or small group settings.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and standard units of measure.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and solve routine problems involving concrete variables.

Computer Skills

Basic computer skills required, including Excel spreadsheets, simple formulas, charts, and graphs. Specific program training will be provided.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Primarily works in a manufacturing plant environment, with regular production floor exposure and required PPE in designated areas.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the production floor for extended periods.
  • Occasional travel to customer or supplier sites may be required.
