Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Psychiatric Associate to join our outstanding Behavioral Emergency Response Team ( BERT).

We are conveniently located on the West Bank of the Mississippi River near downtown Minneapolis!

This role is approved for 60 hours, every two weeks on the night shift (7:00PM - 7:30AM), working 12 - hour shifts and every third weekend with a variable schedule. This position is SEIU benefit eligible.

The Psych Associate is responsible for the delivery of patient care and promotion of a therapeutic environment as delegated by and under the direction of the Registered Nurse so that goals and objectives of treatment are achieved on each unit as assigned.

  • Maintains safety of patient and staff by conducting the following as assigned:
  • Conducts safety checks of patients through visual observation and documentation.
  • Conducts room, belonging and unit searches. • Responds and participates in de-escalation of patient including physical intervention as trained.
  • Actively participates in milieu management with treatment team collaboration.
  • Performs basic patient daily living routines and procedures according to treatment plan
  • Demonstrates knowledge of signs/symptoms of mental health diagnoses and therapeutic interactions and milieu management.
  • Conducts educational programming with individual and/or patient groups according to appropriate treatment plan
  • Responds to emergency situations as trained per policy.
  • Participates in the treatment team’s mission, goals and plans.
  • Acts as a member of the multi-disciplinary therapeutic team.
  • Exhibits verbal communication in a timely, thorough, and professional manner.
  • Possesses knowledge of current issues, changes and updates in Behavioral Services policies and procedures.
  • ADLs & Physical Support
  • Provide light to medium ADL assistance, including hygiene, grooming, dressing, oral care, toileting, eating and mobility support.
  • Assist with supplies, setup, and patient direction regarding basic care routines.
  • Provide mobility support appropriate to training (e.g., gait belts, wheelchair assistance).

Required Qualifications

  • 3 - 5 year of experience caring for patients with primary mental health and/or substance use disorder in an acute care setting(inpatient, ED, etc.)
  • 2 years Experience in mental health, healthcare, or school setting (NA, NST, PCA, behavioral tech, etc.) and
  • Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable individuals or high acuity behavioral needs.
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc, Red Cross)

About the Job

Additional Requirements (must be obtained or completed within a period of time): BERT training to be completed prior to the end of orientation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S./B.A. in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Health Care, Social Work, Criminal Justice or related field.
  • Experience in inpatient, ED, behavioral health, EMT/paramedic, emergency medical services or other related higher acuity settings such as a school, residential treatment facility, group home, etc.
  • De-escalation/Non-escalation Training
  • Workplace Conflict Management Training
  • BERT Training
  • Emergency Department
  • Mental Health and/or Chemical Dependence Units
