About the Role
Talarico for Texas is building a movement to take back power for working people. The campaign is seeking a full-time Latino Media Strategist to support the communications team in driving James’ message by responding to breaking developments in the press. This is not an entry-level position.
Responsibilities
- Pitch Spanish language outlets
- Manage Spanish language surrogates
- Prepare for Spanish language media interviews
- Write or translate press releases, op-eds, and social media posts
- Pitch stories to build a positive narrative around James and his candidacy
- Collaborate with research and digital teams to develop fact-based responses and contrasts to opponent statements.
- Build and maintain relationships with Hispanic media, including TV producers, and bookers in order to pitch stories, shape narratives, and book interviews with the principal
- Draft rapid-response statements, talking points, press materials, and internal memos on press strategy
- Work closely with the scheduling team to schedule interviews
- Carry out special projects and other duties as necessary at the direction of the Press Secretary/Spokesperson
Qualifications
- Fluency in Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing)
- 3+ years of experience in political communications, journalism or another relevant field.
- Proven experience producing quality deliverables under tight deadlines and high pressure.
- Deep understanding of the Texas and national political landscape.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with media, public relations, or journalism
- Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability translate accurately in a fast-paced environment
- On-the-record experience with Hispanic press preferred
