Summary

Provides people and financial leadership to grow both revenues and profit performance and to improve the quality of products and services. Builds customer loyalty. Anticipates and/or design future change and implement through rapid sustainable change to achieve above average standards of customer satisfaction.

Detailed Description

This job is a General Manager in a medium to large site (>400 employees). Provides direct and indirect supervision to all subordinate managers and employees at a site. This includes long-term planning, objective setting, policy formation, interpretation and management while providing latitude and discretion to subordinates. Has overall P&L responsibility for site operations. Work requires investigating and resolving a wide variety of highly unusual conditions that carry long-term implications. Requires developing new strategies, policies, practices, methods, programs or techniques and utilizing them to analyze and interpret difficult problems or situations and/or establishing new strategic direction that is site or multi-site specific. Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives. Has overall responsibility for planning, budgeting, implementing and maintaining costs, methods and employees in a functional area. Makes final decisions on administrative and operational matters in area of responsibility to ensure achievement of objectives. Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of business unit operations. Directs and controls the activities of a broad functional area through several department managers. Assigns objectives, reviews performance and approves employee compensation, coaches for improved performance. Regularly interacts with executives and/or major customers. Interactions normally involve controversial situations, customer negotiations, or influencing and persuading other senior level managers. May represent the organization in public speaking venues and/or community events.

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following

  • Manages all functions including manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain with a strong focus on quality and inventory and materials management.
  • Manages dotted line relationships with Finance, Human Resources, IT, and other support functions.
  • Provide functional direction to all indirect areas supporting site business.
  • Manages the facility with responsibility for the operations of the building including maintenance, security, safety, cleanliness, etc.
  • Manages transitions to new scales of operations. Manage New Product Introductions and Product Transfers.
  • Understands the business opportunities or conditions that drive high utilization for the facility and using the appropriate judgement to make the right selection.
  • Balances the creation of an empowered culture with the need to follow up closely enough to ensure high standards of execution.
  • Instills in the management team a focus on Operations Excellence through flawless execution i.e., detail and discipline in an environment of increasing complexity by utilizing World Class Manufacturing practices and 6 Sigma quality initiatives.
  • Applys best practices aligned to the appropriate operations model(s) for the facility.

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to elements such as noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, etc.
  • Duties may require periodic sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Occasional overnight travel is required.

Typical Experience

  • Twelve plus years of relevent experience

Typical Education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience. Engineering degree or equivalent preferred, MBA an asset.
