Position Summary: In collaboration with a physician, and according to the collaborative practice protocol provides inpatient management, consultations, and co-management of medical and surgical patients. Responsibilities Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care. Operates with the highest degree of independence in provision of patient care services with minimal physician supervision and generally in a highly specialized area. Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations on patients. Writes and/or dictates progress notes on patient charts indicating patient status and treatment or procedures performed. Performs emergency lifesaving procedures in cases such cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, massive hemorrhage, or similar catastrophe. Performs daily rounds independently or with attending physicians and/or students. Participates in the department weekend/ holiday rounding as required. Performs H & P examinations and documents appropriately in the medical record. (Must be reviewed and countersigned by supervising medical staff member within 24 hours and may not be substituted for physician H & P). Monitor and evaluate patient clinical status; reports change in status to supervising medical staff member for management Notifies attending physician about unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct physician consultation. Prescribes medication Issues oral and written orders on, to be reviewed and countersigned by the supervising medical staff member within 24 hours. Writes or dictates reports, progress notes, discharge summaries, and clinical resumes, to be reviewed and countersigned by supervising medical staff member within 24 hours. Perform special diagnostic procedures as credentialed and privileged ( Performs advanced cardiac life support. In a medical emergency, the Physician Assistant will act on behalf of the supervising medical staff member to maintain life support until a licensed physician arrives to manage the patient. Perform patient education. Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Acts as a role model and resource person for staff. Participates in review and revision of policies and procedures. Establishes relationships with professional of other health-related groups within the community. Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations, including physicians, employees, patients, and families. Participates in basic science and clinical research projects. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education/Training Nurse Practitioner MN or MSN or DNP or PhD or DNS degree in nursing. Physician Assistant Graduate of accredited physician assistant program. Licensure/Certification Nurse Practitioner APRN license in the state of Florida. After July 1, 2006, licensure applicants are required to have national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board. Maintains current BLS certification. Physician Assistant Maintain current physician assistant licensure in State of Florida. Maintain current BLS/healthcare certification. Experience Inpatient experience preferred
