About the Job

Applications Engineer

Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Packaging Machinery Lines

At Filamatic, we design and build highly customized liquid packaging and automation solutions for some of the most demanding industries—including pharmaceutical, biotech, diagnostics and cosmetics.

We are looking for an Application Engineer who thrives at the intersection of engineering, sales, and customer problem solving. In this role, you won’t just design solutions—you will influence winning strategies, shape complex equipment proposals, and serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers.

This is a high-impact, customer-facing role ideal for someone who enjoys engineering challenges, ownership, and working directly on revenue-driving opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES (What you will do)

Win the Right Solutions

  • Translate customer requirements (URS, performance specs, process needs) into practical, competitive, and high-value machine solutions
  • Develop conceptual system designs and configurations for complex packaging and automation systems
  • Partner with Sales Engineers to position Filamatic solutions to win business

Drive Technical Excellence in Pre-Sales

  • Evaluate feasibility, risks, and costs to ensure solutions are both technically sound and commercially viable
  • Lead and consistently provide accurate system costing and scope definition
  • Locate and collaborate with vendors of complimentary packaging and processing machinery to enable Filamatic to provide “turnkey systems”.
  • Integrate third-party/OEM solutions into cohesive system designs

Serve as a Trusted Advisor

  • Act as engineering’s primary technical resource during the pre-sales process
  • Clearly communicate complex machine concepts to customers in a way that builds confidence and trust
  • Support product testing and validation efforts where needed
  • You will supervise the product test lab to validate that the equipment recommended is capable of meeting the customer requirements.
  • You will work with engineering to perform “proof of concept” prototype testing to validate machine designs prior to proposal submission.

Expand Capability and Drive Business Growth

  • Identify opportunities where applicable that we can drive additional value and revenue through enhanced product and feature options.
  • Contribute insights from applications to influence new product development and continuous improvement
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with OEM and automation partners

QUALIFICATIONS (What You Bring)

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or related field
  • 5–7+ years of experience in packaging machinery, preferably with manufacturers of integrated systems to the Biotech, Pharmaceutical, Diagnostic, and Cosmetic Industries.
  • Hands-on experience with systems such as: Filling, capping, labeling, material handling, or end-of-line automation
  • Filling, capping, labeling, material handling, or end-of-line automation
  • Proven ability to develop engineered solutions complete with detailed costing that lead to successful bids
  • Experience in reviewing complex customer URS (User Requirement Specifications) and developing cost effective and creative solutions to satisfactorily address them.

Technical Capability

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, pneumatics, and electrical integration
  • Familiarity with PLC controls, HMIs, and automation concepts
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
  • Ability to handle multiple projects/applications that are completed on time, are accurately costed, and satisfactorily address customer requirements.
  • Strong understanding of liquid packaging machinery systems for the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Diagnostic, and cosmetic industries.

What Sets You Apart

  • Experience in regulated industries (FDA, cGMP, etc.)
  • Exposure to simulation tools, smart sensors, or process optimization technologies
  • Strong commercial mindset with understanding of cost structures and system trade-offs

How You Work

  • You are customer-focused and solutions-oriented
  • You take ownership and drive work forward independently
  • You communicate clearly—translating complex systems into simple outcomes
  • You stay composed and effective in fast-moving, deadline-driven environments
  • You value continuous improvement and bring ideas to make the business better
