About Innovation Charter High School
At Innovation Charter High School, we believe schools can be places where young people are deeply known, challenged, and prepared to shape their futures, and where educators do some of the most meaningful work of their careers.
We are a mission-driven public charter high school in New York City serving students with ambition, care, and urgency. Our team is fiercely committed to improving student outcomes and continuously strengthening the school we are building together.
This is a place for educators who believe
- Feedback is essential to growth, for students and adults
- Curiosity is a driver of strong teaching and learning
- Great schools are built through reflection, collaboration, and persistence
- Students thrive when adults hold high expectations and provide deep support
- Supporting one another as a community and showing up as strong team players matters just as much as individual excellence
We are not interested in maintaining the status quo. We are actively working to create new ways of supporting students and new ways of working together as colleagues. That takes humility, experimentation, resilience, and heart.
Our staff cares deeply. We challenge one another. We learn in public. We keep improving.
If you are energized by joining a dedicated team that is building toward something better, for students and for each other, we'd love to meet you.
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate, equity-driven History Teacher (Grades 9-12) to help our student-innovators achieve rigorous academic goals in an inclusive learning environment.
You will co-plan, co-instruct, and co-assess alongside colleagues in the mainstream classroom, working under the direction of the Assistant Principal and Dean of Student Supports to develop, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program that enables all students; including those with IEPs; to fulfill their academic potential.
This role is ideal for an educator who believes rigorous history instruction and inclusive practice go hand in hand, and who is energized by helping every student build toward a high school diploma and a strong path to college or career.
What You'll Do
Deliver Inclusive, Rigorous History Instruction
- Co-plan, co-instruct, and co-assess students in the mainstream classroom using effective co-teaching models
- Teach or co-teach five periods each day, delivering standards-based lessons that push the educational attainment of all learners
- Individually differentiate each unit, lesson, and assessment based on the specific learning needs and interests of students in your classes
- Design an instructional program, in collaboration with the Assistant Principal and Dean of Student Supports, that gives students with IEPs full access to grade-level content
Use Data to Drive Student Growth
- Work with the instructional leadership team and department chairs to analyze data from iReady testing, Regents Exams, and other student assessments
- Implement instructional plans that respond to the needs of each IEP student on your roster
- Use assessment data on an ongoing basis to improve student performance on school and State assessments
Cultivate Innovation's Core Values and Support Students Beyond the Classroom
- Embody and cultivate the school's core values - innovation, collaboration, respect, activism, integrity, empathy - in your professional practice and encourage students to do the same in their academic work and personal conduct
- Provide out-of-class student support through office hours, after-school programming, and extracurricular activities, as needed.
- Take on additional duties as assigned by the Principal or designee
Contribute to a Collaborative Adult Culture
- Engage actively in feedback, coaching, and professional learning
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve practice and student outcomes
- Contribute to a culture of reflection, curiosity, and continuous improvement
- Help create classrooms and a school community rooted in belonging, safety, and high expectations
