The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. The Clinical Social Worker position is located in Buncombe County at Western Correctional Center for Women. This facility houses approximately 366 female offenders.

The Clinical Social Worker (CSW) provides mental health services to offenders within a correctional facility. This role includes conducting mental health screenings, assessments, crisis intervention, suicide risk evaluations, treatment planning, and individual or group counseling. The LCSW collaborates with correctional staff, participates in restrictive housing reviews, and may perform risk assessments related to violent or sexual offenses. The position may require travel to other facilities, participation in on‑call rotations, and involvement in discharge and aftercare planning.

• Documented Experience providing individual casework and facilitating group counseling.
• Documented and hands-on experience in diagnosing and treating behavioral and psychosocial issues.

Veterans’ and National Guard Preference

Master’s degree from an appropriately accredited school of social work. Licensure is required from NC SW Certification and Licensure Board. Necessary Special Qualification Requirements - One must fulfill all requirements for Licensure in North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board.
